Porta Transfer Machines | Customized Production Cells

Porta is a manufacturer of high output machining centers (MultiCenter line of multi-pallet, multi-spindle four-axis machines) and CNC high precision rotary transfer machines. They design and build machines for the valve/fitting industry, fluid handling, pump housings, appliance, ammunition, aerospace, and automotive industries (carburetor, piston, brake system, transmissions, weld yokes, engine, suspension components, etc).

Transfer Machines General:

For some time the Porta group has been manufacturing transfer machines for applications in several sectors

  • automotive

  • aeronautical

  • machine and mechanism manufacturing

  • hydraulic and pneumatic taps, etc

We specialize in designing in close collaboration with our customers, “turnkey” made-to-measure production solutions based on specific production and budget needs.
Our transfer machines can be used for complex 2 to 5 sided machining in one clamping.
The use of spindles with quick change tool holders helps to cut down on retooling times and adapt to production changes.
Our machines are entirely built and assembled in-house. This strategic decision enables us to guarantee quality and strength even in the long term as well as an excellent quality/price ratio.
For this reason, investment in a Porta transfer machine is advantageous even for medium batches.

FMU® machining units

All our transfer machines are installed with FMU® machining units driven by recirculating-ball screws. By eliminating problems related to oil (hot and cold) and filters, this choice has helped us to reduce friction considerably, reach a high level of precision of movement and repeatability and finally, increase the degree of reliability compared with traditional hydraulic solutions or ones with solenoid valves.
We were the first way back in 1984 to take a chance with this transfer machine movement system and were also the first to abandon hydraulic operating more than twenty years ago.

Rotary tables

We have designed all the rotary tables we use. This enables us to be one step ahead of market development and the needs of our customers. We were the firstbrushless motors for rotating and in the table lock/unlock device (system patented by Porta).
On the cutting edge of performance, our tables have a rotation speed of only 0.16 s.
Tables of up to 2300 mm in diameter fitted with constantly moving CNC rotating clamps or plates provide more flexibility than traditional transfer machines and can be used to machine different parts belonging to the same family.

Machine base

The base also makes a significant contribution to the high performance of our machines in terms of reliability, duration, speed and precision. For this reason, it has been subjected to constant research using the experience gained over the years and the most advanced 3D design systems.. The base of our transfer machines consists of thick steel sheets soldered together to form a single rigid element. It undergoes a normalization procedure and stringent analysis including the Finite Element Method (FEM) in order to guarantee rigidity and strength. It is conceived following an ergonomic logic that makes the unit easy to access and use for the operator.

Customized Production Cells:

The sub-contractor market has undergone significant changes in recent years due to market globalization and increasing uncertainty that makes long-term plans difficult. Frequent production changes and an increase in the type of components to be manufactured affect strategic decisions and make new investment necessary

Porta makes its own know-how available to its customers and uses it to design transfer machines as well as entire production cells that include:

  • robotized interlocking cells with palletization

  • touch probe or laser measurement systems in open- or close-loop

  •  part washing systems

  • marking systems

  • stand-alone or centralized tool presetting cells

  •  tightening cells
